The San Diego Zoo's Conservation and Research for Endangered Species: Divisions & Staff

Lisa Nordstrom

Conservation Research Fellow

Lisa Nordstrom is the current Conservation Research Fellow, funded by the Heller Foundation of San Diego. She joined the Applied Animal Ecology Division of CRES in June 2006 after graduating with her Ph.D. in wildlife ecology. Her primary research interests include conservation biology, endangered species management, and landscape ecology. She has worked with a variety of organisms, ranging from insects, lizards, and small mammals to rhinos. In addition to research, Lisa has taught several undergraduate courses in general ecology, conservation biology, biodiversity, and terrestrial field ecology.

Her postdoctoral research focuses on the captive population of white rhinoceros. Working in collaboration with Dr. Ron Swaisgood, she is conducting a worldwide survey of zoological institutions to determine the causes of reproductive failure in captive-born females. This research comes at a critical time since many of the wild-caught females are reaching post-reproductive ages.
